Over the last 6 months I've tried both the beta and release candidate of Windows 7 on my primary home laptop ... and I like what I've seen. I think you're going to like it too. It boots fast, comes out of hibernate VERY quickly (less than 10 seconds and it's online ready to go), and just has nice easy to like interface.
Microsoft says the new OS should RTM (release to manufacturing) in late July. October 22 is the big day, regardless of whether you go buy a copy, buy a new computer with Windows 7 on it, or have bought a new computer recently and will be getting the upgrade copy from your PC manufacturer (or retailer).
